Where they are

They are on four kinds of page, and nowhere else:

• Equipment. 23 slots, each existing because a published parameter is stated in a unit that needs an instrument.
• Supplies. 15 consumables: cures, cultures, casings, spice.
• Ingredient pages, where a substance in the 9 CFR 424.21(c) chart has a form a reader could actually buy. Most of the chart is industrial input and most of those pages carry nothing.
• Product pages, where the cured meat itself can be bought. 38 product classes are covered, and a page for a protected name carries a listing only when a seller puts that protected name in their own listing title.

How products are chosen

A slot exists on the equipment page because a published parameter is stated in a unit that needs an instrument. Water activity is measured rather than inferred, so there is a slot for a meter. An ingoing figure of 156 parts per million is arithmetic on a few grams of cure, so there is a slot for a scale that reads to 0.01 g. Each slot names the parameter that puts it there.

Nobody paid for a slot and nobody can. The listing that fills a slot is chosen by a build script that searches Amazon and applies a set of checks: the result has to be in a non-media product group, has to have a price, and must not match the accessory pattern - replacement, refill, spare part. An equipment or supply slot additionally needs at least a third of the slot's keywords in the listing title. A slot with no result that clears those checks keeps a search link rather than a recommendation, because a link that lands on a replacement gasket instead of a stuffer spends the reader's trust to earn a few cents.

Food is checked harder than hardware, because a search for a cured meat returns curing kits, seasoning blends and cookbooks before it returns the meat. A listing on a product page has to be in a food product group, must not match the kit and seasoning pattern, and must carry the name of the class in its own title. Where a listing also carries a name from the EU register it is preferred over one that does not, and the page says which of the two it is.

A protected-name page is stricter again. The script runs one search per registered name and attaches nothing unless the seller puts that protected name in their own title. There is no substitute and no closest match, because the subject of those pages is that the words are not interchangeable. Most protected names resolve to nothing and those pages carry no listing.

One rule on the ingredient pages is a safety judgement rather than a commercial one. The chart lists sodium and potassium nitrite and nitrate as curing agents, and this site links the diluted curing blend that is sold for that use, never a pure reagent. Pure sodium nitrite is acutely toxic in quantities that are small next to a cure batch. The dilution and the pink dye are themselves safety controls, and the pages say so.

Prices and freshness

Every price on this site was read from the Amazon Creators API on 2026-09-04 by the build script and is not re-fetched when you load the page. That date is printed next to every figure. Where Amazon returned a used offer as well as a new one, both the lowest new and the lowest used price are shown; where it returned no price at all, no price is shown rather than an estimate.

A price on Amazon can move within a day. Treat the figure as an indication of what class of thing this is on the stated date, not as a quote, and read the price on Amazon before buying.

The reason the price is frozen rather than live is technical and worth stating: fetching a price at request time would make every page render on demand, which costs money on every crawl and slows the site down for everyone to keep one number current.

What is not for sale

• A parameter. No commercial relationship changes what a regulation says or which figure this site prints. The figures come from the datasets listed on methodology and the derivations show their working.
• An endorsement. This site does not tell you a product is good, only that it is the kind of instrument a stated parameter requires, the substance the chart names, or a product of the class the page defines.
• A place in the register. Which protected names have pages, and what those pages say, is determined by the EU register and nothing else.

The site is operated commercially and may add advertising, sponsorship or other commercial features. If it does, this page is updated to say what they are and the pages carrying them are labelled at the point of use. The three items above are structural, not undertakings about the future: they hold because of how the site is built.

Pages with no commercial link

The safety page and every hazard page carry no affiliate link, no product block and no price, and they are built so that they cannot: the component that renders a listing is not imported anywhere in that part of the site.

The reason is specific. Those pages carry the control parameters for organisms that kill people, and a product block beside a botulism control figure would read as this site endorsing a procedure. It does not endorse procedures. The calculators carry no listing either, for the same reason: a page that computes whether you are over a regulatory limit should not also be selling you something.

Data and government sources

The regulatory and guidance material this site is built from is US and EU government publication. No commercial data licence underlies any of it, and no commercial party has any involvement in what is published. The full list, with retrieval dates, is on methodology.
